AB FIELD NOTES

Practical thinking.
Shared with purpose.

Original notes on scoping projects, creating a useful digital presence and documenting work responsibly.

01
PROJECT SCOPING

A better project enquiry starts with a clear brief.

The first conversation works better when it starts with the right information.

Read the note

Describe the outcome you want, the location and the current situation. Include drawings, photographs or documents only where you have permission to share them.

Separate essential requirements from preferences. Explain what must stay unchanged, who will make decisions and any timing constraints.

Use that brief to agree a scope. Price, responsibilities, review points and delivery terms should be clear before work begins.

02
DIGITAL PRESENCE

Your website should make the next step obvious.

Clarity is one of the most useful design decisions a business can make.

Read the note

Start with what the business does and who it serves. Visitors should be able to identify the relevant service without interpreting a collection of broad slogans.

Give every service a clear next action. An enquiry should ask for useful details, and its labels should make sense to the people expected to use it.

Treat improvements as hypotheses. Check that links and forms work, then measure real enquiries before claiming that a design change increased sales.

03
DOCUMENTING WORK

A credible portfolio explains your actual role.

Good project documentation makes the work easier to understand.

Read the note

Record the scope, location, date and the business responsible for the work. Distinguish an employer’s project, a subcontract role and a company’s own engagement.

Confirm client permission before publishing names, photographs or project documents. Avoid exposing personal details, pricing or information covered by an agreement.

Label concepts and internal development clearly. A strong portfolio does not need invented metrics; it needs accurate context and evidence.
